Dr. Hamedani’s research focuses on the relationship between visual impairment, age-related eye disease, and cognitive and neuropsychiatric outcomes in older adults, with the broader goal of understanding the population health effects of preventive ophthalmology and eye care utilization. This work utilizes a combination of population-based national health surveys such as the National Health and Aging Trends Study and Health and Retirement Study, which are linked with Medicare administrative claims data. He also has interests in pharmacoepidemiology, intersectional neurologic and ophthalmic epidemiology, and health services research. Dr. Hamedani completed his neurology residency followed by fellowship training in both neuro-ophthalmology and movement disorders at the University of Pennsylvania. After his clinical training, Dr. Hamedani completed a two-year T32 post-doctoral training program in neuroepidemiology at Penn. Since March 2022, he has been funded by a K23 from the National Eye Institute, and was previously PI on grants from the Parkinson Study Group and Michael J. Fox Foundation. Dr. Hamedani is also a CCEB Senior Scholar and an LDI Fellow.
