Epidemiology

Epidemiology

Which groups of people enjoy health and are likely to see that continue, and which populations suffer or are at risk for poor outcomes? These fundamental questions of epidemiology also inspire the broader community of scientists who seek to improve the health of the public. That’s why the DBEI brings together faculty members in three major disciplines of population science—biostatistics, epidemiology and informatics—positioning students to learn and participate in novel approaches to solving problems. Epidemiology students benefit from the experience and knowledge of faculty members who create original methods and pursue a broad array of clinic- and community-based research.

Because the epidemiology programs are housed in the Perelman School of Medicine, students also engage as members of a wider, diverse community of investigators. The PhD program in epidemiology is administered by a graduate group, which affords students exceptional cross-disciplinary opportunities. For accomplished clinicians who seek further training to lead their own formal epidemiological studies, the Center for Clinical Epidemiology offers the Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology.

About Us

To understand health and disease today, we need new thinking and novel science —the kind  we create when multiple disciplines work together from the ground up. That is why this department has put forward a bold vision in population-health science: a single academic home for biostatistics, epidemiology and informatics.
